04/11/2005: "Transvestite Crippled Gamers Are Go!"
I went to Virgin in Piccadilly Circus a couple of weeks ago. I saw a man in a wheelchair playing Splinter Cell on the store's Xbox demo' pod. He was in his early twenties. He didn't seem very aware of his surroundings; I don't think it was because of the game.
I went back to Virgin today. Once again there was a wheelchair user at the Xbox demo' pod; this time Star Wars: Republic Commando was being played (I think). A woman was playing it. She had a bob haircut and lots of green mascara.
I did a double take. It was odd to see a woman playing games, nevermind a disabled woman. Except it wasn't. Wasn't a woman, that is. It was the disabled man I saw originally. It had to have been. On closer inspection (my walking past quickly, trying not to stare) the 'woman's' haircut seemed odd; slightly askew. S/he also had quite bad skin; it might even have been stubble.
I was tempted to ask if she was a he, but that'd take bigger balls or more autism than I have.
